My first ever radio interview explores why I left my dream job as a Police Detective to make candles.

As some of you lovely lot may already know this morning I was featured on BBC Radio Stoke.

I was contacted a couple of weeks ago as one of my reels caught the eye of one of their reporters. It appears that they thought their listeners would be interested in why I left my dream job as a Police Detective in the Major Investigation Team to make candles. Yes I was part of a team investigating murders and other serious and complex crimes and yes this was, at one time, my dream job. Four years into the role though, unfortunately, it began to take it's toll. The stress of the job, family health concerns and peri-menopause all contributed to what I can only describe as a little meltdown in 2022.

I began to realise that I could not carry on as I was and something within me had definitely shifted. I needed calm, fresh air, to be surrounded by nice people and most importantly to be happy.

I had been making candles for personal use for a couple of years as a way to de-stress from the job and had become totally hooked. I knew that this was where my future lay.

The interview doesn't delve too deep but please feel free to take a listen. I was totally out of my comfort zone doing this but I'm so glad I did. I do actually miss pushing myself to do something new and exciting, which I used to do on a daily basis as a Police Officer but it's nice to pick and choose when i do these days.

The interview is on BBC Sounds from this morning (23.03.26) the Lee Blakeman show and is aired after the news at 7am. I will try to paste a link here and hope it works !
