Happy New Year and welcome to my first blog !

Happy New Year and welcome to my first blog !

Welcome to Nantwich Candle Co.

I have wanted to create a blog for a while now so that I can take my customers along with me on the ups, the downs and all the in between in running my small candle business.

Why candles ?

In 2020 during Covid lockdown I was working as a Detective for Cheshire Police, working in the Major Investigation Team. During this time our workload rocketed, I was beginning to go through menopause and was starting to suffer from burnout. I needed something where I could completely immerse myself, shutting out the noise and relax. I bought myself a candle making kit and discovered a love for candle making. The aromas, the process, the result, everything about it totally hooked me. Soon family and friends began to ask me to make candles for them and from there things grew.

Fairly soon a local shop in Nantwich asked me if I would be interested in stocking their shop and they are still my biggest wholesaler to date. We now also make wax melts, reed diffusers, room sprays plus other products. I also ensure we are as eco-friendly as possible and all our packaging is plastic free and bio-degradable.

What makes our candles special ?

From the outset I wanted to use soy wax which is derived from the soy bean, meaning it is a vegetable wax, provides a longer, cleaner burn but also provides an amazing scent throw. I wanted to male a candle that you could actually smell all the way to the bottom but one that wouldn't turn your walls black !

I researched and tested fragrance oils for a long time as I also wanted to make a candle that was not toxic to children and animals which I believe I have achieved in our range.

Each one of our candles is hand-poured in the Nantwich countryside and I believe the price point we have is perfect to reflect the amount of hard work that goes into making our candles but keeps them affordable.

Where we are now.

I say we because although I began this journey alone, my husband Paul (AKA Jeeves or Mr L) helps me out, a lot ! We are now based on the beautiful Gate Farm Rural Enterprise Park, surrounded by animals, countryside and like minded businesses. The location is perfect for us to be creative and provide a relaxing and memorable experience for our customers. Our workshop has a retail shop attached where you can come and buy our products.

Each day is a challenge in some way and I wanted to take you along with me on this incredible journey. I also want to share the behind the scenes moments, give you tips on how to get the most from your candles and announce new product launches.

You can also follow me on Instagram and Facebook - @nantwichcandleco.

Thank you for reading and I hope 2026 brings you everything you hoped for.

Love Janet x
